Happy books and yarn day!
See the little devotional in the middle of the picture up above? {If I could I’d draw a squiggly, wiggly arrow pointing to it, just for fun!} 🙂
I’m on the launch team for this new devotional from Holley Gerth. That means a copy of it arrived in my mailbox last week and I get to share about it with YOU!
I added What Your Heart Needs For the Hard Days to my library sometime last year or the beginning of this year. I can not recall exactly.
We had a giveaway for a set of Holley’s books earlier this year. It’s over, of course, but you can go here to look at the books if you aren’t familiar with them.
You can pre-order Do You Know You’re Already Amazing right here on Amazon and at many other online booksellers.
Each chapter starts with YOU or YOU’RE.
Here are some of them………..
You’re Not Invisible.
Your God is Good All the Time.
You Have Something Valuable to Give.
You Can Take God at His Word.
You Really Are Forgiven.
Under each title, there is a negative thought/lie listed along with a woman’s name and under that is the truth from the Bible along with a woman from the Bible.
Then it lists verses to read from the Scriptures.
The devotional part is next beginning with a story or event or feelings from the woman listed at the beginning.
After the devotional reading, it ends with a Truth Your Heart Needs section. This section contains four questions and space for you to write in answers if you’d like.
In Chapter 15, “You Have Something Valuable to Give”, here are the thoughts and layout.
“I don’t have much to offer.” -Shannon
“God can use whatever I have to give.” -the widow who gave two coins.
Read Mark 12:41-44
As I think about chapter 15, I find myself there. What do I have to offer? What can I do? Look at all the people and people and people in this world and I’m just……..me. Small and insignificant. Unsure at times, that I even have two coins to offer. Feeling like I’ve probably misplaced the two coins that I did even have!
I appreciate how Holley shares real life scenarios and feelings and emotions and applies gentle words and truths to dispel the discouragement and lies the devil wants us to believe. If he can’t steal our salvation, he at least wants us defeated. If he can get us to drop our sword and hang our heads in shame and overwhelmedness, then he’s chipping away at our effectiveness and tricking us just like he did in the garden to Eve.
We are mighty warriors in Christ, dear sisters!
I have a pink and white striped dishcloth 3/4 of the way to finished! Not that you can see it too well in the picture. Ha!
But, I had fun styling these photos.
Sunday evening, the dusk was closing in and I had a quiet hour and I reached for Present-Over-Perfect and curled up in my chair and opened the cover.
If you have, at-all-in-any-way, been feeling like your schedule has too much penciled into it and you want words to help you take it back, I think you would relate well to this book.
I’m enjoying it. Shauna Niequist describes herself, in this book of hers, as an extrovert who thrives on more, more, more and do and see.
I don’t relate to that, as I would describe myself as an introvert who craves quiet and time and home and space. I don’t always want to be asked to the next thing and the next thing.
I do relate to the pressure from other people and how hard such a little word can be to say. The little word, “No.”
I relate to the never-quite-keeping-up-with-everything-I’d-like to.
I also relate to the learning to slow down and I believe rest is important.
The Breathe study I started is also a terrific tool for anyone who wants to rest and slow down and can’t quite seem to. {I talked about it last week, if you missed it.}
{And I know, you’re thinking, “But I don’t even have time to READ a book!” 😉 } Sometimes we don’t have time, NOT to.
I finished Rhinestone Jesus.
Read it. Sometime, read it.
Speaking of feeling like I have nothing to offer….this book can make me feel that way. OH, not that Kristen means that. AT ALL. She does not. Her story would never be meant to make anyone feel that way. In fact, she talks about it some. She talks about a woman saying to her, “I can’t imagine doing what you’ve done. I’m just a mom.” And Kristen say, “I’m just a mom, too.”
And because of a lot of moms that gave in big and little ways and from the “two coins” they had there is a Mercy House in Kenya and there are young women who have been rescued and they are alive, along with their thriving, chubby babies.
Go here to learn more about Mercy House and go here to donate.
Kristen’s blog was one of the first ones I read clear back, well, a LONG time ago now!
And I finished the Richard Paul Evans series. The last title was Walking on Water.
At the beginning of each chapter, there is a little excerpt from Alan’s diary. These thoughts say so much about life. The story is so engaging. Some of the characters endure some rough stuff. Unfortunately, it’s real life. But the deep lessons and insight woven into a engaging, easy read, amazes me. A lot of talent and a lot of hard work!
I could’ve underlined and highlighted a LOT. And I sure wish I could remember it all so much better than I do!
A quick mind and memory are not among my giftings.
Priscills Shirer described herself in Breathe as “being in the wrong line when the Science information was handed out”. I feel that way about remembering………and Science, too! 🙂
Look at these adorable pumpkins!!
I did not make them, though I kind of wish I could claim that I did!!! 🙂
I had the biggest one last year and my sister surprised me, last week, with a package containing the other two!
The large one is made from burlap. The other two are made from recycled, old sweaters! Isn’t that a fun idea!
They are from The Little Green Bean. Here’s her shop! And follow her on Instagram, right here.
AND, finally! Let’s wind this thing down.
WITH SOME HUMOR.
Sort of a KID PICK. Sort of a favorite-of-mine pick!
Let’s hear it for The Baby Blues!
They’ve made me laugh ever since I had littles. The exaggerated, sarcastic, yet-too-real-at-times humor is the best!
We have several of these dog-eared books floating around from bookshelf to basement!
