This box arrived on my front porch the other day!
Shipped from OHIO!!
From Winans Chocolates + Coffee to my doorstep.
I’d been anticipating its arrival!
A box coming with chocolate and coffee printed on its side…………and the real thing inside?!
Definite anticipation.
Winans sent me a super fun mix of chocolates, candy and coffee to try!
AND………..they’re also giving away a chocolate and coffee package to one of my readers. Happy!!
They sent me some of their empty burlap coffee bags to craft with. I have a few ideas stirring around for them and will show you later on this {winter??? most likely!} when I’ve had time to craft and photograph and blog about it. 🙂
They sell the empty coffee bags in their shops. Hop over here to Instagram to see a picture of a few of the bags.
This box of assorted chocolates was part of my package. Isn’t the “Welcome Autumn” tag so adorable?
I do love cute packaging!
It was fun to try the chocolates nestled inside.
One of them was the Miss Clara. It’s buttery toffee covered with chocolate. MMMM.
This little box was tucked in as well.
And inside were…………
buckeyes, of course!
An Ohio classic!
{If you aren’t an Ohio native, the Buckeye tree is Ohio’s state tree.} 🙂
These buckeyes from Winans are a-ok to eat and they are more than a-ok delicious! Chocolate and peanut butter combined equals a really, yummy treat.
I had a whole lot of fun taking photos of fall and chocolate and coffee….if you can’t tell!
These yummy, milk chocolate Mini Wetzels were another item I pulled out as I unpacked my box.
Three Karamel Kisses {and they were delicious} and a half pound of fragrant coffee rounded it out!
We’ve been on a coffee-drink-in-the-mornings kick lately, so the coffee came at an opportune time.
The Winans Blend was in our box. I would describe it as a stronger coffee. I lean towards lighter roasts, but this is very tasty.
I think some of Winans flavored coffees sound yummy.
The Cashew Butter Crunch caught my attention along with the Pumpkin Spice and Snikkerdoodle.
When I was growing up, there was a Winans in my hometown. It’s not one of their locations anymore, but there is one not too far from my sister and it is her favorite coffee shop.
I remember going into Winans, now and then, when I was growing up and everything always looked so delicious and beautiful and smelled wonderful.
She brought me a Caramel Breve from Winans last year when I was visiting at Christmastime. She’d dropped her daughter off at school and Winans is a very convenient stop on the way back home!
So handy, like that!
The breve was terrific! I wish I had one right now.
Oh, and she’s trained her daughters well. I have to interrupt and stick this picture in.
It’s a drawing by my middle niece. {I love her art!}
This drawing is a picture of her with her Winans coffee!
Find her on Instagram here ~
{And you can see the drawing she did for me over in this Armor of God post.}
Here are some of the interesting details about the history and beginning of Winans.
ESTABLISHED: October, 1961 in Piqua Ohio
WINANS HISTORY: Laurie Winans Reiser, coowner
of Winans Chocolates + Coffees, can trace her family
history back to the late 1800s. The family started out as bakers, passing the business down to the next
generation for the past four generations. The company is one of the older family owned and operated
chocolate confectioneries in the country.
WINANS CHOCOLATES ~
Winans has been in the chocolates business since October of 1961 and we use recipes that have been
handed down through the family from the original founder Max
Winans, to the current owners Joe and Laurie (Winans) Reiser.
Winans uses fresh ingredients, including cream, butter and sugar.
It takes about an hour to make 1 pound of candy. We can run 1,000 lbs of candy a day with a crew of six
and two cooks. Except for the enrober operators, everyone working on the factory floor has more than one
job.
Much of the work in the factory is done by hand. We hand roll our famous buckeyes, then hand dip them in
melted milk chocolate. We hand mark all of our chocolates so customers can tell our chocolates apart by the
design. We also hand pull our homemade brittles and hand dip our chocolate covered raspberries and
strawberries (made seasonally).
WINANS COFFEES ~
When we first introduced coffee into our stores in 1993, we insisted on a commitment to the same great
quality that our customers have come to appreciate from our chocolates. We start with specially selected
coffees purchased from hardworking
farmers, then transport the beans to be roasted at our own locally
operated facility.
Joe and Laurie are very active in the day to day operations of Winans. Joe knows how to make all of the
candies that we produce here in the factory. He also knows how to roast coffee and make specialty
espresso drinks. Joe and Laurie have met many of the farmers who work at the coops
that we purchase
coffee beans and our single origin cacaos.
