Once upon a time when I was in second or third, or perhaps, first grade, our teacher gathered supplies for an art project.
Now, this wasn’t just ANY art project.
It was special and glorious and was going to become a Christmas gift for our mothers!
Oh, the joy!
Teacher passed out bright, shiny oranges and stationed each of us in a workspace.
Then she gave us all small, chestnut-colored mounds of stubby whole cloves.
Our task was simple. Carefully push the cloves, one by one, into the surface of our oranges. One by one, until the outside of our orange was covered completely in cloves.
We topped them off with ribbon strings.
Our mothers could hang these fragrant pomander balls in their closets! Not only would they have an aromatic closet, but a handcrafted treasure as well!
It was a win all around!
We grade-schoolers had the pleasure of painstakingly placing clove after clove, circling the orange’s circumference. Our mamas would be delighted with this wonderful gift!
I held this Gathering candle to my nose and sniffed.
Fresh and refreshing, while also capturing the essence of Christmas spices wafting through the house, it instantly transported me back to my classroom and art project of long ago!
I closed my eyes and breathed in the scents of {Orange + Clove} all over again!
Scrumptious!
It’s been years since I made the pomander for my mother and many a day has passed since I thought about it.
I remember it hanging in her closet and tiptoeing in occasionally to gaze at it and sniff appreciatively. And no doubt, admire my handiwork for a few minutes!
I am delighted to receive a Holiday Sampler of candles from Amber Vale Home.
I think this Gathering candle would make a dandy gift if you don’t have time to create a pomander! OR it would look wonderfully-grand paired with a Clove Orange, if you DO find the time to make one. 🙂
{If you want to make a Pomander or need a fun idea for Clove Oranges, this post is very cute! AND. Pinterest is brimming with ideas!!!}

I opened the Tennessee Christmas candle next.
I really thought the Gathering candle was my favorite.
UNTIL.
Until I took a sniff of Tennessee Christmas.
Now I can’t decide.
The Tennessee Christmas is all sprucey and lovely and amazing!
It’s described as {Evergreen + Deciduous}.
It’s fresh! It’s fantastic! It’s fir!
It’s delicious! Not in a oh-I-want-to-eat-this way. Nope. Not that way.
But it’s delicious all the same! Somehow delicious describes it divinely well!
Finally, I removed the shiny black-metal lid from the third, and final, candle in the Holiday Sampler.
The name on the label read, With Extra Whip.
How can you not love a name like that?!
Extra Whip foaming along the top of your mug is surely a given!
{Peppermint + Hot Chocolate} was the description below the name.
I inhaled once again.
Peppermint floated leisurely in the air, lingering, waiting to combine with the undertones of chocolate drifting subsequently along.
A third winning combination!
All three candles and combined scents shouted of Christmas and cozy and companionable winter evenings!
I’ve been sniffing the candles the whole time I type out this post! Yay! Happy me! 🙂
Another winning feature?
Amber Vale Home candles have delightful wood wicks! I like the crackle and flicker of a woodwick candle!
Guess what else they have that’s wood? In their online store, Amber Vale Home offers Walker Hill boxes. They’re handcrafted from hardwood and work perfectly for holding a line up of candles. Go peek at them here! They’re available in Painted White or Stained Espresso and are a fun decor statement piece.
Tucked inside the brown Kraft paper sheds cushioning the candles in their box, was a lovely thank-you card.
A sweet, little note stating the joy found in creating lovely candles and sharing them to bring joy and coziness inside the walls of home!
A second card was included with tips for lighting and caring for wooden-wicked candles.
I became a bit obsessed with these little beauties and snapped pictures and pictures!
Oh, and for those who like to know, of which, I am one, these candles are made from a soy-coconut wax blend!
