This digital, electronic age that we live in? Well, there are lots of things I like about it and there are things about it that make me realize I need to have balance when it comes to living life and screens and doing things.
I like computers. I do, but I much prefer it when they work right. Someday, when I have spare time I’m going to take a computer class or two. When one of our computers decides to act up, I always feel like I know just enough about dealing with them to frustrate myself.
Anyhow…
I like having pictures on my computer and I like the digital age where I can snap, snap, snap photos and not worry about film. My kids don’t even know what a camera with film is. I have a great accounting program for our farm that I thoroughly like and it makes my bookwork easier and more fun. {If paying bills is ever fun.}
I appreciate many things about the internet too. I like how facebook has connected me with friends on the west coast, who otherwise I would only communicate with through Christmas or Easter cards.Β I’ve enjoyed making connections with other bloggers and gaining new ideas and inspiration. I often search the web for recipes and new menu ideas. I’m often thankful for the ease of finding a product or item that we need. Like last week when I searched the item number from my husband’s favorite jeans and placed an order for them. This was after we looked at two stores and returned a pair he had purchased and didn’t like. See? Easy-peasy!
So, those are some of my likes. In the midst of all that, is the realization that anytime I sit down to work or browse on my computer, time is going to get used up, go by quickly, disappear, vanish! Whether I’m catching up on bookwork, editing pictures, browsing facebook, or blogging, when it comes to computer, it equals time.
Off and on for the last month, I have been thinking about life and laundry and meals and all there is that needs done, that I want to do, that has to be done and finding a balance for it all. I really do think a computer and the internet are wonderful tools, yet I also know how much they can draw me in.
Then a few days ago, I read this inspiring post over at Raising Arrows. This morning I read this post from Ann Voskamp. It is very interesting and I love the print out. It was so timely for me.
So many things in life require balance. I was inspired by these posts and I wanted to share them!
Another thing I did a good while ago, was quiet my phone. I don’t have a smart phone, but I do have text notifications which are sent to my phone. Add in a few texts from family and friends and that can equal a good bit of notification noise. So, I simply set my phone to No Ring for my text alerts. I found that I was looking at my phone occasionally anyway, even with the tone on. By turning it off, I don’t have to hear it and think I need to go look at it. I like texts and emails, but it is too easy for me to fall into them running me instead of me using them as handy tools.
What have you done to find a balance that works for you? What handy hints and tips do you love and use for juggling life online and off?

No wonder I can’t ever get hold of you – LOL!! Just kidding – I know exactly what you mean. And quieting the texts might just be what I need to do during the school hours of our days. Good idea.
